Drawing from advertising, animation, and graphic design, Johnson reconfigures visual narratives that seem familiar into poignant and humorous commentaries on his own culture's exported ideologies and explores how popular history has influenced the materiality of language and images. From pre-digital paste ups to toile wallpaper, Johnson's stylishly impersonal surfaces obscure a universal pathos.
