303 Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Kim Gordon. On view will be a series of paintings with the canvas partially cut out in the shape of an iPhone.

“The screen of an iphone is a new surface compared to the tradition of canvas. They both are public but just one feigns intimacy. A painting is presented for public consumption but it actually creates personal intimate moments. iPhone images are presented as intimate moments but created for mass sharing. Technology is always evolving forward giving the false equation that humanity is also evolving. Politically things are unraveling and seem more primitive than ever with choice and other civil liberties being taken away, books being banned etc. The iPhone promises freedom, and control over communication, as an outlet of self expression, an escape and a distraction from the bigger picture of what’s going on in the world. It’s also useful for making paintings."
