Stephen Shore | City as Garden

As French philosopher Michel de Certeau once said, "The city is a planned and designed space, but it is also constantly being rewritten by the practices of those who walk through it." T3 Photo Festival Tokyo sees the city not just as a fixed infrastructure, but as a "garden of creativity" that is cultivated gently by human actions and gazes. While Tokyo is an extremely artificial and well-maintained city, the gaps, margins, and diversity that exist there offer creative possibilities. By planting artists' works (seedlings, flowers, trees) in these spaces, we will send a message to the world that Tokyo is a city capable of generating cultural and scientific responses.
