303 Gallery is pleased to present new works by Tim Gardner opening in the gallery’s Project Room.
Bringing together new watercolors of New York, London, and Los Angeles, Tim Gardner's latest exhibition draws from photographs taken over a number of years across the three cities. While rooted in specific places, the works are not tied to the present, depicting landscapes whose skylines, architecture, and surroundings have often since changed. Water recurs throughout the exhibition, linking urban and coastal scenes with a quiet sense of rhythm and continuity while underscoring the passage of time embedded within the images themselves.
For more than three decades, Gardner has used watercolor to translate the photographic image into meticulously observed paintings that invite a slower way of looking. His work consistently finds significance in ordinary places and everyday experience, revealing how the act of painting transforms familiar scenes into enduring reflections on landscape, time, and perception.
Tim Gardner (b. 1973, Iowa City, IA) received a BFA from the University of Manitoba and an MFA from Columbia University. In 2023, the Winnipeg Art Gallery presented Tim Gardner: The Full Story, the artist's first major retrospective, surveying three decades of his practice. Gardner's work is included in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery of Canada, among many others. Gardner lives and works in Alberta, Canada.
