Nina Canell and Robin Watkins’s “Muscle Memory” reads as an open-ended visual compendium of the processes and places that define their practice. Exploring the often hidden processes that define our life today, their collaboration does not revolve around the finished artwork but rather the transitional, surprising and inexhaustible processes of the matter it contains. Employing a range of different materials – from the synthetic to the organic – these pages channel their distinctive sculptural language. For Canell and Watkins, there is no mediation that is lossless – an output is never the pure transmission of a source – but always as much the distance it has travelled and the things it has come in contact with.
