Alicja Kwade | Nuit Blanche Paris 2016

Alicja Kwade, Die bewegt Leere des Moments (The Void of the Moment)

~ Tick tock, tick tock ... ~ The time of Poliphile seems to have arrived. An imposing suspended clock swings like a sword Damocles over the head of the visitors. Driven by gravitational and centrifugal forces, the pendulum and the stone that serves as a counterweight perform a choregraphy set at a constant speed. As Foucault's pendulum whose swing evinces the rotation of the Earth, the installation shows the movement of time as that of the world. A recurrent motif of the artist's work, the clock is a testament to the human impulse to measure and divide time as a means for controlling and shaping reality.

Lamps, mirrors, doors- the artist of Polish origin born in 1979 uses everyday objects in an attempt to materialize abstract principles. The installations of Alicja Kwade sow doubt and create ambiguity.
