In her upcoming exhibition of conceptual sculpture, Liz Larner employs rubber, metal, plaster, rope and machinery to evoke the metaphor of stress and physical danger. Pulling, pushing, resisting, and swelling, this recent work conveys the possibility of aneurism, the sense of pressure before the burst. It summons up the paranoia of an unseen and unknown threat. Larner sets up a tug-of-war between natural forces and technological forces, continuing the dialogue of the empirical and the purely imagined.
