We are proud to present Karen Kilimnik’s sixth solo exhibition at 303 Gallery. In the past year Kilimnik has had international museum shows at the Kunstverein Wolfsburg e.V., South London Gallery, Bonner Kunstverein and the Nassau County Museum of Art.

In her latest body of work we see classic landmarks from New York city; the Russian Tea Room, the giant snowflake from 5th Avenue, as well as jewel cases that house dioramas of the Kirov Ballet and the doomed 19th century Shackelton Arctic expedition. There are paintings of lords and barons, a tour of historical England, the night sky with tiny collaged ballerinas.

In the back gallery we are showing Hellfire Club Episode of the Avengers an installation from 1989. This type of work established her place as a forerunner in the realm of “scatter art”. In this piece Kilimnik continues to blend elements to create a unique story. This list includes the 1960’s television series The Avengers, The Beatles, exclusive British secret society clubs, and the 18th century flair ever present in the look of sixties style. Black and white Xeroxes, photographs, and stage elements are used as well as a soundtrack that includes 18th century choral and harpsichord music, parts of the Avengers television program, Madonna’s Like A Prayer, the Pet Shop Boys It’s A Sin, as well as the sound of crystals chiming from a purely inferred chandelier.

We are also proud to preview Karen Kilimnik: Paintings published by Editions Patrick Frey. This hard bound book is a comprehensive collection of her paintings to accompany the drawings book published in 1997. The release date is set at the end of January, 2001.
